Intersect Illinois has announced Christy George as its new President and CEO, effective November 2024. George brings extensive leadership experience in economic development, having recently served as the Executive Director of the Chicago 2024 Host Committee for the Democratic National Convention, where she led record-breaking fundraising efforts and civic engagement. Prior to this, George held prominent roles in Illinois government, including First Assistant Deputy Governor for Budget & Economy under Governor JB Pritzker, Executive Director of the Illinois Commerce Commission, and various leadership positions in the City of Chicago.
Governor Pritzker praised George for her leadership, noting that her experience will help propel Intersect Illinois to new levels of success in economic development. In her new role, George will focus on expanding business opportunities across Illinois, working with Intersect Illinois’ Board of Directors, led by Chairman John Atkinson, and the statewide Team Illinois coalition to attract business investments and foster job creation.
George’s past accomplishments include overseeing a record $94 million in fundraising for the DNC Host Committee and engaging all 77 Chicago communities to ensure economic benefits reached diverse local businesses. She also led business engagement and workforce development initiatives for the state, positioning her well to advance Illinois as a top destination for business and investment.
Under Governor Pritzker’s leadership, Intersect Illinois has seen significant growth, with projects in fiscal year 2024 creating 2,738 jobs and generating $2.05 billion in investment. Recent successes include attracting a $2 billion electric vehicle battery plant by Gotion and the expansion of food tech startup Aqua Cultured Foods. The organization has also strengthened its focus on cutting-edge industries by hiring a Chief Quantum Officer to enhance Illinois’ leadership in quantum technologies.
As George takes the helm, she is poised to build on these achievements and drive further growth, positioning Illinois as a global leader in business development.
